Danae Kimpinski is an emerging artist on the Canadian music scene, known especially for her award-winning song, “Mother Dear". Growing up in small-town Alberta, her clear vocals purely express sincere lyrics, rooted in her small-town heritage.
In preparation for a new album release, Danae reached out about a custom commission. She shared her vision to work with local artists to partner a unique art piece with each of her new songs, for inclusion in the lyric booklet. It was an honour to work on this painting for her new song, “Found Yourself", which is all about finding yourself in a little old town.
Danae provided me with full creative licence for this painting; the sole parameter was to listen to the song, and paint my interpretation of it, however I was moved. Amazing! It felt like a fellow creative was celebrating my own creativity, and then through my art, I was able to support hers in turn.
The Found Yourself lyrics are listed below. To learn more about Danae and her music, visit her website.
You found yourself in this little old town in the middle of nowhere just the start of an adventure. You found yourself adrift from the familiar Turning the footsteps into miles Making a home just for awhile
Chorus: Strange things happen all the time. And getting to know you is a pleasant surprise Strange things happen without a clue, And I’m so glad to have found a friend in you.
You found yourself in this little old town On the outskirts of a purpose I hope you find the search is worth it. You found yourself on a road that takes you deeper Into life, new blends of people This journey is a teacher
Chorus
Instead of digging holes we climb out of them No mountain is too tall to hold us back from the view. Every challenge is welcomed And I can’t wait to see what you do.
Instead of waiting for the moment we make our own On a cold day we eat an ice cream cone. Unpacking possibilities Only a small part of the puzzle have we seen
You found yourself right where you belong...just for awhile You found yourself in a place where you belong just for awhile You found yourself right where you belong...just for awhile You found yourself in a place where you belong just for awhile
